A ROUND OF APPLAUSE
The students of Pearl Academy of Fashion have, over the years, exhibited outstanding skills and talent that have paved the way for many an accolade internationally as well as nationally. A few of the recent noteworthy achievements by the students are as follows:
Winners of Wills Lifestyle debut Contest:
Tanya Narula (PAF-Delhi) who vowed the judges with her evocative designs emerged as the overall winner in the competition.
Shashank Bhushan Singh (PAF-Chennai) was in second place, sharing the accolade with a student from another institute.
Pratyush Maurya (PAF, Delhi) was declared the second runner up in the March 16 event.
The winners were judged by an eminent panel of representatives from ITC and leading fashion institutes, along with renowned fashion designers from FDCI, who judged them on key parameters like creativity, technicality and commercial viability. The winner will receive their awards at the forthcoming edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Award. The winner will also receive an all expense paid trip to an International Fashion Fair and an opportunity to work with ITC Ltd.
Tanya Narula, who beat 300 participants from leading design colleges, expressed her joy and said, "Debut is a great platform for all aspiring designers. It is an incredible, thrilling and top-of-this-world experience for me. I am really thankful to Pearl for enabling me to be part of such a wonderful platform. It was a mind-blowing moment that will be forever etched in my memory."

Triumph Inspiration Award 2010:
Ms. Yadvi Aggarwal (FD 2007-11) won the Triumph Inspiration Award 2010 national round, which was held on 26th May 2010 in Mumbai. She represented India at International round held in September 2010 at London. Ms. Shradha Grover (FD 2007 -11) was the 2nd runner up. Six FD students got selected for the "Triumph Inspiration Award 2010" final national round.
International CSI Color Awards 2010:
Mansee Jain, (TD 2007-2011) won the India Heat of the CSI Color Awards organized by SDS and Dye stars in Mumbai. She represented India at the Grand Finale of the International CSI Color Awards 2010 in October 05, 2010 in London at the magnificent Clock Workers Hall.
IFFTI 2010, Taipei, Taiwan:
Ms. Kritika Dawar, FDIW Semester 4 presented a paper on "Collaborative Efforts Towards Sustainability" at the IFFTI Conference at Taipei on 23rd March, 2010.
Scholarship by Instituto Maragoni, Milan:
Ms. Divya Singh (FD 2008-12) participated in "I Am She 2010", Miss Universe India pageant contest and won a scholarship to pursue post graduate programme after completion of B.A. (Hon) Fashion Design Programme at Pearl.
Centre for Sustainable Fashion, London College of Fashion:
Mr. Varun Gambhir, Fashion Merchandising student got "Fashioning the Future Award", an international student competition conducted by the Centre for Sustainable Fashion at London College of Fashion under the category, "Role of Materials in a Sustainable Fashion Industry Award".
WOW 2009:
Mr. Ankur Kaushik, Fashion Design student got short listed amongst the best 11 entries from India for WOW 2009. He showcased his creation at WOW fashion show at NZ High commission on April 17, 2009.
Let's Design by Cotton Council International (CCI):
Ms. Shagun Mahendru, Kriti Tula and Lakshita Govil FD students of semester 7 got selected by the Cotton Council International (CCI) for the final round of "Let's Design", a design based reality show organized by CCI partnered with ZOOM, a leading fashion and lifestyle channel.
The Debut 09, Wills Lifestyle:
Ms. Megha Nagpal, a Fashion Design student won The Debut 09' Wills Lifestyle amongst the 12 finalist from the different fashion institutes across the country & showcased their creations to a Jury. Ms. Varun Goel, Nibha Khungar and Snigdha Kejriwal (cohort 2005-09) also got selected for the National Round "The Debut' Grand Finale.
Designer of the year contest, FDCI and Van Heusen:
Varun Arora (FD 06-10) was selected as the finalists of the emerging "Designer of the year' contest. The contest was organized by FDCI and Van Heusen during Van Heusen India Men's Week on the 12th Sept 2009.
Some other notables:
Ms. Astha Narang (FD 2008 -12) won the International Fashion Design Competition on 'Fashion Sustainability' organised by Vogue at national level to represent India at international level.
Ms. Divya, Ms. Aditi and Ms. Surbhi of TD-VIII won the people's choice award and stood 3rd in the jury's decision for the BURN CURATE Design competition for their entry 'Metaphor', at an event was organized by Coca Cola India Private Limited and Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week.
'Life is Good' and 'Right to Freedom of Expression', two films by CD Semester VI students were nominated for awards at International Short Film Festival of India in Chennai and festival at Manipal Institute of Communication.
A team of 17 FDPG II students were the winners of the inter college fashion event 'RGB Festival 2010' at National Institute of Design, Ahmadabad. They have also displayed the PAF design strength at NID campus for three days.
Abdul Halder started his career designing for the king of pop Michael Jackson in 2002, then moved to work with the Italian fashion house SB Italia, experiencing shows across Europe and Middle East. His debut at the Lakme Fashion Week '06 was followed by the Dubai Fashion Week '07 and the Lakme Fashion Week 2007-08.
He is the only designer to showcase his collection at the United Nations General Assembly, New York.
Manish Gupta graduated from the Pearl Academy of Fashion in the year 2001, bagging the 'Best Academic Performance' and 'Technical Excellence' awards at the graduating show. While still in college, he interned at Ritu Beri's design studio working as an assistant designer. With five years of experience, working with highly talented designers such as Abhishek Gupta/Nandita Basu and Rohit Bal, Manish launched his label 'Manish Gupta' in January 2007.
Rohit Mittal, a graduate from Pearl Academy of Fashion, launched his label in 2004. The
label is being retailed through various high-end stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Hong Kong, London and Sydney. His collections show
strong influence of rich Indian fabrics, embroideries, satins, silks and bucket dyeing techniques. The debut collection at India
Fashion Week would showcase Derby collection and Resort wear for independent, affluent, emancipated and stylish women.
Harangad Singh, was selected amongst the best 10 from all over India to showcase at the Lakme Fashion Week. He states, "My style has evolved from a passion for design and an undying love for craft traditions. Interesting silhouettes and peculiar details resonate through the medium of handlooms and both of these manifest themselves in a subtle product. It is easy to discern an inherent lyric in each design. Nature and fantasy are a constant source of inspiration and these bind well with my style".
